Reimbursement of the cost of routine home maintenance work
The CNESST reimburses the cost of routine home maintenance work for certain workers who have had a work accident or who have an occupational disease.
Reimbursement of the cost of routine home maintenance work may be granted to a worker, before consolidation, if:
- the CNESST is certain that the worker has or will have a serious permanent physical impairment
- the needs for which the worker claims a reimbursement will be of a permanent nature (e.g., claim for reimbursement following an amputation)
- the worker is unable to do the routine home maintenance work that they would normally do themselves were it not for their injury, based on the information available about their state of health
Reimbursement of the cost of routine home maintenance work may be granted to a worker, after consolidation, if :
- they are entitled to rehbilitation
- they suffered a serious permanent physical impairment as a result of their employment injury
- they are unable to do the routine home maintenance work that they would normally do were it not for their injury
The cost of home maintenance work that may be reimbursed includes:
- lawn mowing
- painting
- major cleaning (for example, spring cleaning)
- snow removal
Claim for reimbursement
As a worker, to be reimbursed, you must obtain prior approval from the CNESST and provide at least 2 cost quotes for the work. Subsequently, you must submit a document that confirms:
- that the work has been carried out by the service provider
- that the payment has been made
Reimbursement is made only for work and amounts that were the subject of a CNESST decision.
